Did anyone else noticed how the chapter "Flesh and Blood," after Nector leaves Marie she emphasizes the word "I." I think this is to show how she can be self dependent and she really does not need Nector. What does anyone else think about this?
i think that it was odd that she says she wasnt really angry and all she did was peel potatoes..maybe this shows that both of them were not happy with their marriage so it was better they be seperated
i know what you mean dustin.i think she wanted to show that she could handle her self on her own. also did anyone notice that the ending of Marie's story about their divorce is diffrent from Nector's story.
I think she said "I" a lot not only to show that she was independent but also because she was trying to make it sink in the she was alone and had to take care of everything by herself.
i think while she was with Nector she was dependent of him but after they got a divorce i think she realized how much she did not actually need him which caused her to use "I" more often.

ReplyDeletei think marie was very dependent of Nector. even though she seemed mean and tuff, she was still vulnerable with men.

ReplyDeleteI also think that the increase in the use of "I" shows more independence, from nector and just in general. It also shows her maturation.
ReplyDeleteThat was a very good observation, I never realized this. I mean I realized the "I" but now I can see how it would represent independence.
ReplyDeletei think she and her pride were hurt and wanted to prove she wasnt weak and didnt need Nector and could move on without him
ReplyDeletei think she's definitely independent, but, at the same time, she has a burning desire for nector, whether he's with another woman or not.
