i think theres lots of sad stories about native americans but there are also stories of triumph about native americans showing how they were better people than the people that killed them
Jordan, these stories really just deal with internal issues and really have no correlation to their depressing past. Like little love stories and stuff.
I think a lot of truth is depressing because life isn't perfect so if all the stories were all happy then it would not be realistic and no one would be able to relate to a perfect life.
I like these stories, i agree that they're sad but i feel like they're more honest that way. and i don't think that just because these stories are sad it shows that native americans are unsuccessful
yeah jordan...not so much. "rich" and "decadent" are not the right adjectives i think you were looking for but i get what you are trying to understand.. it is depressing
yeah i think the stories or all sad because that pretty much how their life went, becuase as soon as whites showed up in their life, it pretty much sucked after that
many of these stories we've read confirm all the negative stereotypes about Natives and give the reader a reason to believe the stereotypes. maybe the Indian authors write from real life experiences involving racism, poverty, and alcoholism
When I was little my therapist would tell me to let out all my sadness by writing things down and when I would write stories or poems they would all be depressing because when I was depressed I wrote the most. Maybe people write depressing things because sad times are the easiest thing to write about and more people can connect to sadness than joy. Writing can be a way to let out all of the stuff locked up inside. Successful and uplifting stories sound cheesy. If that makes sense to yall.
I actually like reading depressing stories. I think they're interesting and they make you really think about real life tragedies. On the other hand, though, I totally understand that it gets frustrating to read about the main characters fail all the time...
I agree with Rudie and Hallie. I like reading these stories because they seem like they could be real. Life isn't all rainbows and unicorns, you know? You can relate to the sadness in the stories. If the stories were mushy love stories, we'd probably be complaining about that too - because it's not realistic. If everything in the story fell perfectly into place, it wouldn't be interesting because we couldn't relate to it.
i agree laurie. i think most of the time life kicks our butt and its what we do in spite of that that matters. i think this books tries to teach show us that
well i think that the story of native americans is a depressing one because they lost their land and heritage because the white man and native americans could not live together and n.a. got the short end of the stick.
well i think that the story of native americans is a depressing one because they lost their land and heritage because the white man and native americans could not live together and n.a. got the short end of the stick.
i think the author wrote these stories to be depressing is because the author wants t oshow teh reader the true reality of the native americans, what they went through and how they felt
i think the stories are sad for the same reason news corporations only show shocking, terrible news...it makes money, not to say that this book is solely about money though.
i think that because they are depressing thats what makes these stories interesting. If everything in every chapter was happy like rainbows and butterflies i would have no interest to continue reading
i like these stories, they make me feel better about myself! just kidding but these sad books have more drama and hidden sybolism in them
ReplyDeletei agree, though these stories are very depressing there is alot of different aspects to look into it
ReplyDeletei think they are depressing because the last 150 years of the rich Decadent culture of Native Americans has been so depressing
ReplyDeletethey are depressing for a reason to draw attention to the condition.

ReplyDeletelife is a garden..dig it..
ReplyDeletelife is tough..deal with it..these stories are really rich and entertaining..they are honest and truthful...nothing wrong with that
i agree with stephanie. its seems like the sader/ more depresing the book is the more symbolism it contains.
ReplyDeleteEven though this story is really sad, it does contain a lot of symbolism. It portrays real life which is sometimes harsh and depressing.

ReplyDeleteThats true, but sad stories don't just happent in Native American novels. Its just that we haven't read happy stoies, yet we have only read 2.
