I don't understand why the title of this chapter is "Crown of Thorns". Every other chapter title was relatively explained in each other chapter, but this one confuses me.
Gordie's "crown of thorns" is his drinking. He makes himself suffer under the influence of drinking because he feels guilty about abusing June, sacrificing himself so to speak. Jesus sacrificed himself for his people, suffering under an actualy crown of thorns so that his people wouldn't have to.

Yeah it's related the similarities between soldiers and Jesus. They both have to die for others. It makes him into a hero figure
I'm not gonna get into politics here, but I think that comparison is BS. Henry Jr had mental problems and killed himself- I doubt Jeshua did
