Scales - the only legitimate relationship
When we read "Scales," I realized that Dot and Gerry's relationship was the only one we had come across so far that did not involve physical abusers or infidels. What I found so sad about this, was the fact that Dot and Gerry were forced to be a part from each other because of Gerry's criminal record, but they wanted to be re-united more than anything in the world. All the other relationships TRIED to avoid one another. Sad, huh?

No, it's not sad. It's sad that Gerry escaped from prison so many times and his kid won't know his father. Google "hedgehog's dilemma" for a good idea on this relationship
It definitely is a sad situation. The people who aren't meant to be together are, and the people who are truly genuinely in love face hardships which ends up keeping them apart.
i think its sad as well. the only abuse in their relationship was not towards one another. gerry was abusive to that guy in the bar and dot was close to abusive with albertine but its clear dot and gerry truly love each other. they seem as genuine as marie and nector when lipsha was talking about them
