Does anyone think it was weird that Reggie's dad has an Indian sounding name,Bird, and is white?
His mother Martha on the other hand is Indian, and she has more of a white name.
Do you think Alexie did this intentionally?
Maybe I just over analyzed it.

well maybe he did because Johns name is John Smith and hes indian, thats very ironic.
Yeah, a lot of the names in this book are ironic, like Kim said, John Smith is a generic white man name. I think there are meaning behind these names even if it is just to make you think or add irony to the book.
I think you might be overanalyzing it. Maybe it's just setting up a part of the book. Like all the little details your paying attention to are throwing you off of something bigger.
Reggie's Dad is named Bird, a stereotypical Indian name even though he is white. But David's Dad is also white and has a stereotypical Indian name of Buck. I think it does show irony as Kim and Christine said. It juxtaposes John and his stereotypical white man name of John Smith.
I definitely think Alexie did this intentionally. I don’t think you overanalyzed the book, Andrew. If you don’t notice the details, you might miss a lot of important, smaller things in the book that connect to the bigger picture.
i agree with alex, i think your overanalyzing a little bit i think it might just be coincidence.
I don't think you are over analyzing the book. i think he does it on purpose because he wants people to realize that White people tried to force Indians to become white.
i think alexie probably had a reason for this just like john's name is very white and he is indian
