Does anyone know what is Iago's motive for being the biggest jerk ever? Is it just because he wants the military position that that othello probably wont give to him, especially if he finds out that Iago is a two-faced liar?
He wants to be Othello's Lieutenant, read the play to find out what happens with that, but he also wants to get rid of Othello, and make Desdemona leave Othello so that she might go for Roderigo. And Cassio is basically a catalyst for all three of these things. By eliminating Cassio, Iago will be the next in line for his position, and Iago is trying to frame Cassio by convincing Othello that he is having an affair with Desdemona, which will drive Othello insane and cause him to leave Desdemona, which will give Roderigo another chance with her.
Basically, his desire to get rid of Othello coincides with Roderigo wanting Desdemona to leave Othello.
Also, he thinks Othello slept with his wife, Emilia.
the biggest thing is that Iago thinks Othello had an affair with emilia. there's really no proof of that/probably didnt happen, but Iago is paranoid. so he wants to get back at othello by making him feel that same pain?
