Barry

So i still don't understand this whole thing with Barry Pinkley .... what is his deal? He now finds Edgar at his school and takes him away from there like he planned to do at the hospital. I mean i understand he says he's going to bring him to his mother and all and that he has found her. Why does he care so much about Edgar?.. what is it about him that makes him so attached to Edgar?.. in helping him.. caring for him... saving his life.. checking up on him all the time.. finding his mother.. i just don't understand Barry very well. And also it's kind of creepy when they pull up to the house and he tells Edgar not to worry about the dogs and that they only bite the police... like the police are bad or something?!

Barry is a drug dealer, as shown by his selling "paper bags" to people at gas stations. The dogs are trained to bite police to prevent them from entering the building and searching it for drugs. As for Barry's seemingly unwarranted love for Edgar, his motives aren't clear, but given his personality and activities (drug dealing), it's not surprising that readers will be suspicious of him. However, Barry also mentioned how his parents didn't care about him and how they were upset when he told them he wanted to become a doctor. Perhaps that's the reasoning behind his care for Edgar, but as of yet the answer hasn't been made truly clear.

I can't say for certian what Barry's deal is. I know what you mean, Amanda. There's just something off about him, and I've felt that way from the beginning. It always seems like he's trying to show Edgar the very worst of people so he will cling to Barry. He's doesn't seem to have very good intentions.

One of the strangest parts is how young Edgar is. Although Udal has made him a mature child, he can't really help himself from an un-stabble drug dealing stalker. Barry's character is severly skewed if he believes it's ok to bring a child to such a place as well as showing him his mother in such a condition.

I don't think Barry is bad or anything. He has good intentions, just shows them in weird ways. In a way he probably feels like a father towards Edgar since he practically brought him back to life, plus he knows Edgar doesn't have a real family to look forward to.
