interesting article on wikipedia about the life of Mark Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon and how he said the Catcher in the Rye motivated him to do this.
just read pretty much that whole thing. That guy is crazy and i still don't get why The Catcher in the Rye would influence him to kill, out of all people, John Lennon. The murderer clearly had a psychopathic obsession with killing him, but it still doesn't make that much sense.
Yea I actually watched a movie pretty recently called "The Murder of John Lennon." It was really interesting because the whole movie went inside the mind of Mark Chapman leading up to him killing John Lennon and after.
Doesn't it say the catcher in the rye didn't have to do with him killing lennon, and he was just paid to do it. He still is crazy for doing it and has an obsession with the book but most people seem to believe it's the book that made him do it rather than being paid.
If you think that Chapman was paid to do it, then you also think that JFK was shot by a magic bullet, or that the government uses satellites to read our minds. Chapman being paid for it is just a ridiculous concept. It wasn't like Oswald who tried to run away, Chapman waited for the police, even admitted to the murder at the scene. He was obviously trying to send a message, and he used the novel as a symbol for his reasoning. In an interview, Chapman admitted that he thought Lennon was a "phony" for his message for peace and equality, and yet living in a Manhattan apartment. Oh, and this was posted at 11:59. Boo ya.
There's a movie about this called Chapter 27, that talks about Chapman' plan and how he ends up killing Lennon. It looks pretty interesting because Jared Leto is staring, the lead siner of 30 seconds from mars and the star of Requiem for a Dream.
