N. Scott Momaday stated: "I sometimes think the contemporary white American is more culturally deprived than the Indian." Native Americans definitely have suffered more and learned how to save their culture and race. How do you feel about this quote?

native americans certainly have a more diverse cultur than the modern day caucasian culture in America, the rich folklore and history indicates that we are more culturally deprived than they are so yes i do believe in the quote
I think it is open to different interpretations and agree with it to a certain extent. The indian culture and heritage began even before the white man came to this land. Their culture is enriched through their spirits and gods, their relationship with eachother as well as nature. All of these things collectively provide the native americans with a diverse enriched culture.
Well as we have been reading i seen how indians dont really practice there culture that much anymore, unless their culture is drinking, cursing, raping, and crying. I think that causians practicing religion and holidays is more cultural than the characters in Love Medicine or Tonto.
i was wondering what he looked like so i found this picture.

manlove your right i hate to say it but i think that we were kinda sucess full in making them more white. but i also think part of it is the world around them changing as well do u think that today if we hadnt shown up they would still be on horses shooting bows and arrows using smoke signals, to communicate
I think that quote is true, but maybe for a different reason. I think that because Indians were Native to America they haven't moved around as much as native europeeans so they haven't lost their culture as much. Native Americans have been fighting for their culture for a long time and in the move from Europe I guess a lot of white people lost their culture. If that makes sense at all it. It made sense in my head.
Well I think this can be stereotypical. Indians do have a very rich and diverse culture, but so do Americans. America is a mix of different cultures and roots so if you look at it that way, then Momaday's quote can be argued. At the same time though, it seems as though many Americans are not really as in touch with their heritage than Indians are.
I think that the quote is true. The Native Americans had to fight to keep their culture and beliefs in their lives. The whites were the ones who were trying to take this away from the Native Americans. The main thing that the Native Americans ever had to fight for something it was about their culture. The whites have fought for many things but I can't think of many examples when they had to save their culture.
I believe you learn through your struggles and suffering. A person's true colors come out when they are put in a difficult situation, and how they deal with it.
I disagree with the quote by Momaday: I think all races have a pretty much equal amount of backround when it comes to cultural diversity.
i think that this is a smart quote. thats becuase minorities know more about struggle and defeat than white people do because whites have always been the ones overpowering whatever minorities.
i don't know if i totally agree with that. yes i agree that indians have a rich culture but so do white americans. Our culure is very different and focuses on other things but that doesn't mean we are lacking in that area. American whites have also suffered a form of opression or struggle and haven't always been independent.
I think it's true because white people come from so many backgrounds that we don't know what we are anymore. native Americans still do their own thing and it's easy to tell apart from other cultures.
i agree with what jordan said about how Native American culture is much more diverse than whites. I think that it is true because N.A's still have their traditions and beliefs from generations ago and are very proud of it as well.
