"Native Son," a song by U2, was originally written about Leonard Peltier who Gerry Nanapush was based on. The title was later changed (along with the subject matter) and it became the Grammy Award-winning song "Vertigo," though it was no longer about Peltier. The original version of the song was later included on the Unreleased and Rare and U2: Medium, Rare and Unreleased albums. U2 has never stated publicly why the subject matter was changed.
