The mind of the author

After having read Love Medicine, I think it's amazing how Erdrich creates such believable and intense characters all from her imagination and keeps their personalities constand throughout the novel. I guess this would apply to any novel, but especially Love Medicine.

i think a lot of people said that the author concentrated on the bad in the lives of his characters, but i think that he was just trying to say that life kinda sucks and it will kick your ass unless you have your eye on the ball. I feel that this book did a good job of showing readers what can go wrong.

Each character had such a complicated life, I wonder if it was difficult for Erdrich to keep all the plots straight.

I totally agree, parker. i feel like we really got to know each character's life, especially because stories were often told from different characters' points of view.

One thing that i think is amazing is how authors can full off such tasks. ernrich lets themes run throughout the novel and does not get things mixed up.. how do they do it!!

it is just coincidance that both story's we have read about native americans have had chapeters that are not in any specific order and have had diffrent narrarators for each chapter. each chapter is like a book inside of a book

Well in the interview we watched she seemed like such a smart woman and such a free spirit I guess that's why she can create such intense characters.

I wonder how many other authors write in a similar style as Erdrich, in that she uses so many different personalities and characters

i think that not only the way she keeps her characters straight but also how she uses so much symbolism and is able to be consistent throughout the novel is also interesting

i agree with the people who are talking about themes. its amazing how she has the ability to maintain certain themes throughout the entire book. i feel like that must take some serious planning. im also kind of in awe of how complicated she was able to make the family tree, its confusing but after you sort it out it all makes sense

i agree with alex, i think its amazing how she created such an intricate family tree and was able to relate all the characters through out the book and show how they were all related. Her imagination went above and beyond in this novel. She made all the characters so believable and she put them in real life instances.

I tried to relate the characters in Love Medicine to people I know that are involved in my own life. By doing this I was more understanding of their problems.

i think it would be pretty easy to make up a foundation of these indian character's lives considering indians lives are pretty simple. almost all of them are percieved to be oppressed and then become alcoholics and fall in a deaper hole.
