Natvie American hero or drunken Indian ?

Ira's story is like a lot of the characters own lives in Love Medicine. I think i most see Henry Junior in that when he came back from war he took up heavy drinking and shut himself off.

i think he's a hero for going and fighting in the war. a lot of people who served in vietnam suffered from depression and what not when they came home. the war was really gruesome and it was too much for many people to handle.

I think he's brave and heroic in the sense that he went to war, but its sort of lame that he was such a drunk loser at the end.

I don't blame him for drinking because war must have taken a toll on him, and it's his way of escaping his thoughts. It is not a good or healthy way, but it doesn't take away from his credibility as a hero. He just needs some help.

i think he is still a hero for going to the war because he had to fight for his people. I think fighting in a war is a lot for some people to handle and drinking when he got home is how he dealt with it. I think he is both a native american hero and a drunken indian.

I think hes justified for drinking and think hes done a great service by fighting in the war. We cant relate to so much of what hes gone through, that we cant begin to judge him
