This is a giant bronze statue of Medea in Batumi, Georgia. It is located in the center of the town square as if she was some kind of hero. I don't know maybe people from Georgia just really like the story, because Medea doesn't deserve to be praised in my opinion.

i think in some ways Medea should be praised. she did do a lot of things no woman would ever think of at that time. She took matters into her own hands and actually did something about it ya know? usually women around that time would just mope or just shrug and become a prostitute or something.... or i think that's what they did. but either way, usually women wouldn't act like Medea because Greek men were oppressive and lame
i agree with ellie that she did put women in a stronger light, but at the same time she made women look a little psycho for being desperate enough to kill her own children.. but she had her reasons for doing so, so I guess it could be considered somewhat okay that she have a statue erected in her name
also Colchis is in present day Georgia and wasn't Medea from Colchis?
so they probably respect Medea in those area because that is where she is from.
I don't think Medea should be praised because everything she did, good or bad, she did becaue Aphrodite forced her to. Medea was not in control of her actions, but a puppet for Aphrodite.
I think the statues of Medea were built to pay tribute to the story of Medea as a famous Greek Myth, not necessarily Medea herself.
