Killing each other?

I believe that Sherman Alexie's purpose of this book, wasn't to reveal a certain killer or make him look just Indian, but that he was trying to make a point by saying that both the whites and the Indians are killing each other: he does this through the two sets of masked men especially.  The motif of the blue eyes and the owl feathers just throws the reader off of the main purpose.  I think he is trying to say that to this day Indians still hold a grudge towards whites.

I think that the purpose of the book was to show that many situations could have many possible answers, and you just have to decide for yourself which one is correct.

I was looking forward to finding the killer but I agree with alex and think that this is the kind of book that makes you think about the idea.

i agree with both sarhbeth and alex. i do believe Alexie is saying Indians are still angry at what white poeple did to them and their lands. And i also agree that Alexie wants the reader to decide what outcome is the correct one. i can't decide what is right though. i believe it is right for indians to still be mad, but i don't believe that killing is he right approach.

The book itself was more on the conflict between races than a murder mystery. It showed the tension between two groups of people in a certain time period. While the message of inequality was portrayed perfectly, the story itself lacked in depth and quality. The fact that the book itself has no ending provided me with no closure whatsoever. I would rather the book tell me who the killer was than have me keep guessing.
