Owl Dancers in Traditional Clothes

I thought it was interesting that right after John watches the owl dance, he kills a man and decides to leave owl feathers on his body. These symbolize death.

with those green costumes it makes me think that these are like the costumes John might have worn as a grass dancer

The book claimed that to the Spokane Indians, the owl generally symbolized death or was a harbinger of it. I wonder what the crow symbolized because of that?

Makenzie made a good point: those costumes look a lot like the grass dancer costume that John imagined in his pretend life. About the owl dancing: I was confused by the concept, is it basically like a ladie's choice dance? and what is with the broom?
