page 2 and 3 the 1st, 2nd and 3rd paragraph and later on pg 3. there is all this talk about light shining, winter, easter, eggs, etc..I remember from class but if someone would like to explore the heavily symbolic meaning of the 1st paragraph of pg2..it would be swell and enlightening

eggs seem to have a lot of symbolism in the novel. eggs symbolize life. They are round and represent cycles. They also represent the tomb which is an allusion to Jesus when he was being resurrected.

- Nector and Eli are like two halves of a whole, yin and yang
- Water represents a cleansing, purification, and baptism
- The number 40 represents a long time, privation, and sacrifice
- Snow is white, which represents purity and the absence of color
- "The snow fell deeper that Easter than it had in forty years but June walked over it like water and came home" (7). --> full of symbolism
- "His thoughts swam between us, hidden under rocks, desappearing in weeds, and I wasd fishing for them, dangling my own words like baits and lures" (19) --> fish imagery, talking about alzheimers

the doorknob june carries in her purse is symbolic of the stone at the mouth of the tomb. "the round grip was porcelain, smooth and white. Hard as stone," pg 5. it is also similar to the egg because it is smooth and cold like the stone is

i also noticed the eggs had a very heavy symbolic meaning of life because they are a circle shape.

Some of the very significant symbolism includes the elements like Ms deckard said in class.
The elements reoccur and symbolize an array of different things

the color blue comes up alot and that could symbolize the color of water which is one of the 4 elements

incest. it seems like it will be a reoccuring theme since it has already happend twice in 3 chapters

June mentions cracking like an egg and has a thing with the color blue.

nector is related to rushing water which is quite prevolent in "the plunge of the brave." when he is with marie, it is like he is drowning but when he is with lulu, he regains his fight to live and not just sink to the bottom. it is like the old woman's picture put a curse on his life to forever be fighting the rapids.

pairs seem to be a symbol too--the personalities of these pairs such as eli and nector, zelda and aurelia represent opposite personalities
