vocabulary

does anyone find it interesting how the mardi gras indians freely use certain phrases that, at one time, would be very offensive or rude?

Nah, not really. A lot of expressions that were once offensive are now frequently used in conversations.

i find it unfair that "certain people" can use "certain phrases" where as "certain 'other' people" are not so much allowed to use these "certain phrases"... if you know what i "mean"...

i think times have changed but i sort of agree with brian there are certain words that can only be used by a perticular group of people and if your writing a book about that group you have to protray them accuratley....good or bad

I think it has a lot to do with the connotation of the word. If for centuries a certain group of people use a word with a negative conntation then it will take a while for it not to sound offensive when a certain group says it. If that makes sense.

it makes sense, i just think that people should not take into offense right away but rather listen to what a person is saying. it goes in all directions and all races. people just shouldnt be too defensive or ignorant.
