How did he do it??

"Vexilla regis prodeunt inferni
verso di noi; perĂ² dinanzi mira,"
disse 'l maestro mio, "se tu 'l discerni."

Come quando una grossa nebbia spira,
o quando l'emisperio nostro annotta,
par di lungi un molin che 'l vento gira,

Even if you thought the context of The Divine Comedy was not amazing, You have got to respect Dante simply for writing such a long allegory in terza rima. In the orignal italian form, you can clearly see the rhyme that trancends throughout. How could anyone write such a long allegory in terza rima within only one lifetime? Let alone write a terza rima to tell such an elaborate story!

I think after he got exiled he had a lot of time on his hands! And he was obviously really smart so yeah.

I agree with Brittany. I'm sure he went a little crazy in exile as well which in most cases with other poets, proves to produce some awesome and amazing work.

yeah he must of lost it in exile because he comes up with such creative and raw circles in hell. the inferno would be no good it if wasnt so out there

The text sounds so much prettier in Italian. The rhyming is really subtle in the English translation. Dante's imagination and creativity are basically unmatched.

If you like the Italian, I suggest you got to the Dante worlds website at U. Texas. There are audio clips from each circle.

All great materpieces take an extraordinary time to complete, i.e., The aeneid, Vergil's Epic, is over 10000 lines and he averaged two lines a day.

Vergil makes Dante's work look childish. He is the greatest.

I Dont know. Vergil and Dante are obviously some of the greatest writes of all time and have huge impacts on our society. I personally like Dante's work more.

i think pain that he suffered from being exiled brought out alot of creativity and ideas

ya it's alright i mean...i coulda done it. he did take like 20 years to write it ...that means he had like 7300 days to write this thing. im not saying that it isnt a brilliant piece of writing but if i had that kind of time i could make something so beautiful it would make Ms. Deckard cry

Every word Vergil uses has a deeper meaning, u can only experience this if u actually read it. Its the hardest work i have ever read.
