I think Barry is always after Edgar because he feels responsible for him, having saved his life. But I think it’s also something more.
It’s similar to The Catcher in the Rye. Holden couldn't save his little brother, so he wanted to be the catcher in the rye so he could save all the other children.
Barry lost both of his parents when he was young and so he was adopted. But his adoptive family abandoned him when he didn’t do as they wished. Barry doesn’t want Edgar to go through what he did as a child. Barry just goes about it in the wrong way. I think his intentions are good though.

I think he identifies with him. Edgar is a mini Barry in Barry's eyes, he wants to give him a good life; unlike he had. But by doing this he sometimes does the opposite.

I agree with Emily. Barry is somewhat putting his issues on Edgar and assumes Edgar is going through what he did when he was young.

Barry holds a strong attachment to Edgar, because, working as the doctor in the Apache Reservation, he had hardly any encounters with a serious incident like Edgar, except for a few stitches on some Indians. Barry seems like he stalks Edgar, but he takes pride in Edgar, who is essentially a "miracle boy", because of Barry's work: which he has defied his "parents" to do. He feels a sense of fathership towards Edgar.

not only does Barry identify with Edgar, but like Ms. Deckard says he projects his feelings upon Edgar, as if they woul share the exact same emotions.

since Edgar was Barrys first real case i think Barry will feel a strong attachment and responsibility for him. He saved his life. When barry was not allowed to be back at the hospital i think it gave him more incentive to try and reach out to edgar knowing he wasnt supposed to.
