Edgar's Faith at His New Home
Does anyone believe that, although Edgar hit complete rock bottom, that his new home is strengthening his faith, even more so than at Willie Sherman? He thanks God in a letter every single night, speaking of his appreciation for waffles, carpet, and snacks, something that Brain takes for granted. How many people think that this new home is a great thing for Edgar, making his faith stronger?

I think the fact that Edgar is saved in a sense from Willie Sherman makes him more appricative of the things have has been given in life. Not only is he in a great new place, but he also survied many accidents. His life in general should make him feel thankful.
i think because his faith is so new and fresh for him he is keeping it strong. The elders taught him well and really support his decision to pray daily. I think maybe eventually edgar will become fascinated by new things and slowly stop praying. i also think brain talks down to edgar, making it hard for edgar to bring up his spirits and keep up with prayer
I wonder if his faith is stronger when it's just an abstract idea. For him, maybe Mormons represent the way things should be, and could be out there, but he has no way of checking while at Willie Sherman. Once his faith meets the hard truth of real human lives, it might seem hypocritical or fall very short of what he'd hoped it was. If so, his faith might be completely lessened.
After reading up to page 299 we see that edgar is beginning to go back to some bad habits. especially stealing. edgar steals just about everything and is very sinful. However, no one is perfect but i believe he could do away with some of these habits. Edgar even realizes the acts he is committing and prays for forgiveness every night. i wonder what Edgar;s new family would think about him knowing what he is doing or if they would really care.
