i don't think u could hide it under this one because you could still see it, so he obviously had to have one where he can hide it. But who knows. maybe the doctors just never payed attention.
yeah i agree there is no way he could have hid a kinfe under the keys...unless maybe you can pull a section of the keys up, which would normally be to get inside and fix it, except Edgar used it as a spot to hide his knife. This is the only thing i can think of with this typewriter

Edgar would swipe spools of typing ribbon from the supply closet in Mr. Whipple's office at night so that he could continue to type.
