So far in Dante I haven't thought that the punishments have been that bad, but then i thought that if you had to do some of these things for eternity it would be terrible, in fact if you had to do anything for eternity it would be terrible. Does anyone agree?

In circle six, the people are in the eternal open tomb with the flames of God burning them forever. I think thats kinda terrible.

yea i agree, because then you would get tired of doing the same thing over and over again, and then just go crazy!

i agree with alex. No matter what the punishment would be, doing it for all eternity would be bad.

I don't know. Being rained on by filth and excrement sounds pretty disgusting, personally. Actually, if I had to live with that filth for eternity, I would probably have to get over my germaphobia.

But wouldn't they get used to these punishments after a while? If it's negligible, it's not that much of a punishment then.

i dont think a punishment in hell would be neglibble they just dont seem that terrible becuase they are described in the book. But if we were to see someone go through this on youtube or something we would definitely be horrified or astonished.

Yea, I think doing anything for eternity would be torture; especially if it’s physiological rather than physical torture. The pure monotony of it will also get old fast. Think Chinese water torture...
