Uganda Doomsday Cult Response
That video was pretty shocking. It's crazy how someone who was expelled from the Catholic Church can gain so much power as a religious leader. I have to admit, as insane as the guy must have been, he planned everything pretty well. His ideas to make the followers speak in sign language and to keep the community fenced off were pretty effective. I'm still a little confused about what the leader was really trying to accomplish. To think that he killed hundreds of people for some money is pretty messed up, but from what I can tell I guess most cult leaders are pretty crazy. It just blows my mind to think how one man can gain the full support of that many people. So much support that the followers give all their possessions up for the cult. Hopefully this terrible tragedy will be a warning to others around the globe that are thinking of joining cult-like groups, or think that they are witnessing one develop.

I agree that it is terrible. I think the reason he gained so much power is because people were desperate. He may have been trying to accomplish some sort of town with its own economy and way of life away from Uganda. SInce Uganda was suffering financially, he may at first have had good intentions to help the economy that were poisoned by power and money.
I can’t believe the people didn’t notice that hundreds of their citizens were being killed by this so-called cult. The fact that the leaders were stripping the followers of every belonging to their name makes people think it was more than money- related. They weren’t allowed to have sex or anything, they couldn’t even use soap. This people seemed more that prisoners rather than followers. Who would want to do this anyway? I couldn't beleive it either... these people seemed so oblivious. I can't help but wonder if any of them became curious when they heard noises, possibly even curious children? This cult seemed to have alot of control over its followers, stripping them of anything that belonged to them. I wonder what could have urged these people to join a cult like so? And is so, why wouldn't they try to get out once a few massacres had already occurred? Crazy.
