Edgar's Purpose in Life

In the middle of taking my test i realized something really important i wish i could have inquired in my paper but did not have enough to go back and change things but after Edgar was touched by God he said his purpose in life was to find the mailman. He fullfills this purpose until the end but as a result, he loses his relationship with Him. He says how their relationship is at a stand still and he will no longer rely on God or trust Him. i just think how it is ironic that God touches him and brings him to fullfill his purpose which eventually leads him to a happy life. What does anyone else think about this?

True, Edgar's existence is confusing, i think he may complicate his own life some times. its just hard to believe that he can have so much chaos. also, the day edgar got run over by the mail truck, did he know he was about to be adopted and lost all recolection in his coma ? poor edgar's life is so confusing

I think that the reason for Edgar's distrust of God is that Edgar doesn't know why he's had to endure all of these terrible things, because Barry had known for years where the mailman was.

i think his purpose in life was that God had planned for the mailman to die and that left Rosa with a void in her life, and Edgar's purpose was to fill that void and to take care of her and keep her company and make her happy

I think Edgar's relationship with God has deteriorated because he has invested so much time in finding the mailman and he is let down when he realizes that the mailman is dead. He is let downby God but still finds happyness and now that he has in some way completed his purpose, he no longer needs God.

I agree with Brian. i think that Rosa does have a void in her life b/c of the mailmans death, but i also think that they both had a void when they thought they killed edgar. it is like completing the circle. i also wonder if edgar knew the mail truck was nick's and went under it because he wanted to be close to him

I think Edgar's relationship with Nicholas definately ends when he meets Rosa, but his relationship transfers, so to speak, to Rosa. The love that he would have found in Nicholas, he finds in Rosa.

I think that Edgar's relationship with God has gone down the tubes, but I think it will pick up as time continues on. Edgar will realize the good things God has given him. He will see how happy he is now and that the good times would not be so good if everything was like that.

yeah i was thinking about that too, Dustin. It's weird how Edgar considers his purpose in life to find the mailman. That's why he thinks he survived that accident and why he never gets too hurt in all of his other little mishaps. Then when he finally reaches the mailman's house, his sense of purpose is totally lost.

Yeah, it is weird that God is such a great influence in his life for a while and then just isn't anymore....I think that he probably either never really relied on God or he always did even though he said he didn't anymore. I doubt that he just stopped trusting God for no reason.
