Edgar is so desprate for friends, that he will do just about anything for them. But it seems that only the people who have any interaction with him want to use him in some way. i.e. Nelson, who always has some plan with Edgar carrying out the dirty work.
nelson isnt good for edgar because he does nothing but use him to do things that nelson is too scared to do himself. nelson doesnt care about edgar and he only stands up for him because he "owns" him
i think burning his pee pee was a form of initiation and now that he has been "inducted" nelson has edgar under his wing. at least he protects him from all the other kids.
The entire scene reminded me of a gang initiation. It is not nessessary, but Edgar feels like he needs someone. He has no family or real friends still by his side, so he likes this relationship feeling.
nelson runs the grounds of the school, and it doesn't really take much effort for nelson to protect edgar from bullies. edgar on the other hand puts himself on the line to do favors for nelson. nelson isn't a good person but edgar is slowly learning how to deal with him, and he feels more comfortable knowing that he has someone like nelson who can protect him from constant bullying
I think he meant good OR evil Ms. Deckard....And I think it falls into the idea that anybody who does stuff for Edgar is because they want something from him. I think Nelso is evil and is just using Edgar and even though he protects him from the other kids he completely strips him of his dignity.
i think nelson was fine at the beginning and the getting p.oed over beer is harsh to do.. but anywhoo Edgar pulled an R. Kelly and peed on their faces. amen
I think Edgar would be better off having no friends at all then having nelson. The only reason why Nelson even talks to Edgar is to get him to do something bad for him. He is just using him and corupting him. Cecile is a much better friend for Edgar.
Nelson is bad and he indimidates Edgar into stealing stuff for him. He's a mean character and does what he does to edgar to show how he has power over him
i think that Edgar is really a scapegoat for Nelson, Edgar takes all the beatings, and Edgar, being immature, doesnt know that he is not doing the rite thing, but with Cecil shooting Nelson with the bow and arrow, i think the author is trying to convey the fact that in real life situations, you can only rely on yourself for protection

idk i personally think edgar is better off without him. nelson doesn't seem sincere.
He's just using Edgar for his own benefit. He does these easy things for Edgar and makes Edgar do the tough stuff.
Dont yall think edgar should just stab someone. with his knife. I would.

i think nelson is a bad person and edgar shouldn;t be around him. he just bosses edgar around and doesnt care about his feelings

Edgar doesn't "need" Nelson, but he likes the feeling that he is needed (i.e. doing Nelson's dirty work)
