Yea Edgar seemed to learn how to read really quickly and seems to catch on to stuff quick. Maybe his brain was supercharged by the accident. But yea he's definitly sharper than most 8 year olds.
I feel like his thoughts are more mature than other 8 year olds. He thinks about a lot of things that I did not think about when I was 8. He also seems very calm and collected for living in a hospital filled with adults not knowing where his family is-that does not seem to bother him terribly.
In some ways Edgar is very typical of an 8 year old who hasn't been exposed to the world, and in some ways he isn't believable. His attachment to his typewriter is OK with me, since so many kids are into their diaries, I just wonder about such a love of writing at his age. But based on the excerpts Udall gives us of those early writings, do you think he is too advanced?
i think his thoughts are mature too and that he thinks about mature things than normal 8 year olds. the accident might have done something positive for him.

I think Edgar seems advanced for his age. Although he has dysgraphia, he seems pretty accomplished.

Probably less advanced for obvious reasons, but I think the author's commentary, if you will, makes Edgar seem more intelligent.
